Tuesday 26 January 11:15 am – 12:45 noon:

Madeleine Vionnet, a Fashion Purist.

Visit to the exhibition at the Musée des Art Décoratifs with fashion designer Dimitri Papalexis.

130 dresses from 1912 to 1939 illustrate the career and high art of Madeleine Vionnet who with Coco Chanel, Jeanne Lanvin and Elsa Schiaparelli was one of the queens of Paris fashion of the early modern period. Vionnet is celebrated for her bias cut and draping, an architectural and tailored conception of dressmaking of great subtlety and sophistication. Her designs sculpt the body without constraining it or hindering its movements and participated in the liberation of the female figure in the 1920’s. She has always been other couturiers’ favorite couturier, and Dimitri Papalexis, who is himself an haute couture designer, will be revealing to us all the secrets and subtleties of her tailoring and draping.

Place: Lobby of Musée des Arts Décoratifs, 107 rue de Rivoli 75001.

Métro: Palais-Royal-Louvre  (lines 1 and 7).

Course fee: 120€ for the 6-part series or 25€ for a single class.
