Louis XIV, The Man and the King.

Gallery slide lecture on the exhibition at the Château de Versailles (Ending Feb 7, 2010).
Thursday, January 14, 10:30 am – 12 noon:

This is the greatest exhibition ever organized on the image of France’s most celebrated King and creator of the magnificent château of Versailles. A multitude of sculpted busts, painted portraits, miniatures, wax images, medallions but also furniture, tapestries, ballet costumes, commissioned artworks and mementoes of every kind illustrate the image of the Sun King in what was undoubtedly the greatest marketing operation of royal imagery of all time. The show covers all facets of the King’s personal and public career, his tastes and his relations with his family, mistresses, ministers, artists, architects and gardeners. A unique opportunity to discover or to re-discover Louis XIV.
